Greenberg Ice Pavilion at Penn State University

Greenberg Ice Pavilion at Penn State University

Date Completed: 08/30/13
Location: Penn State University
Project Cost: $9,000,000

The Greenberg Ice Pavilion at Penn State University has been a vital part of student life for many years, offering figure skating, hockey, and weekly birthday parties to the students and neighbors. However, the building and interiors had become outdated, and the refrigeration system was past its prime. The University realized that the old direct Freon system to create ice was obsolete and malfunctioning and decided to replace it with a new and efficient system. The project also involved installing a new snow melting pit and locker rooms, as well as giving the Ice Pavilion a makeover with a fresh coat of paint, a new floor, remodeled rooms, and a new mechanical and dehumidification system. The project followed a LEED design to address the issues and enhance the appearance of the Ice Pavilion.
